About Us

Who are we?
Macquarie Fields Swimming Club is for all ages and abilities. We have members as young as 3 and as old as 68 years of age. Abilities range from young children learning to swim, right through to experienced athletes competing at National Championships. Our aim is to encourage swimming as a competitive sport and healthy lifestyle choice. We also provide a fantastic social setting where great friendships and team spirit are formed. Many club social functions away from the pool are also programmed each year.
What do we do?
The Swimming Club meets every Tuesday night (except school holidays) at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start. Normal finish time is between 8:00 and 8:30pm. Each week, competitors can choose up to 3 races. Freestyle is always available as well as 2 other strokes, Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, or Medley. Races range in distance from 25m to 400m. Beginners can be assisted in the water by a parent or experienced club member. Beginners may even use kickboards if they wish. There is no weekly cost for competing at the swimming club.

We encourage parental involvement in the club both in the water and at poolside. We always require many volunteers for officiating at our club meets and running fundraising activities.
Does the club have a Learn to Swim and Coaching program?
The swimming club does not conduct a formal Learn to Swim program. The club has a strong relationship with the Campbelltown Council Learn to Swim and Squad training programs conducted at the Macquarie Fields Leisure Centre. We look to encourage progression from these programs into competitive swimming. Most of our members are enrolled in these council programs. The coaching staff of the Council's Squad programs are recognised officially as our club coaches.
How much does it cost?
The first 2 club meets for prospective members are free. This allows competitors to fully experience our club at no cost. Pool entry is charged but Campbelltown Council support us by only charging members and spectators half price on club nights. Apart from pool entry, there is no other weekly cost. After 2 club meets, swimmers need to formally join the club. See the Membership page for annual fees. Our year starts in October.

Wests Leagues Club Campbelltown are our major sponsor, and subsidise memberships provided that swimming club members are also members of Wests. The annual fees cover registration with Swimming NSW and the associated insurance. The annual fee also covers some of the clubs running costs.
What competitions are held?
Each Summer and Winter season, there is a point score competition, where swimmers are rewarded for improving their own times. Each Summer, there are club championships where members compete in age groups, as well as open championships. Each Winter we hold a "Dash for Cash" handicap competition where members race for cash prizes.
Does the club compete against other clubs?
Our members travel to many other competitions against other clubs. One particular starting point for many members experiencing inter-club competition is the annual Macarthur Area Swimming Clubs Association (MASCA) carnival. This involves 9 other swim clubs from the surrounding Macarthur district. We also host our own inter-club swim meet each Summer as a major fundraiser for the club as well as attending other clubs organised swim meets. As so many swim meets are available, we like to target particular meets and attend as a large group. This helps bond the team together as the swimmers support each other during their events.

The next level of competition is within the Metropolitan South West Area (SMSW). This involves some 30 clubs from the southwest area of Sydney. Championships for SMSW are held each Summer and Winter, as well as several other organised competitions and development activities.

It is the goal of many members to continue their swimming career further by qualifying for Metropolitan, State, and National Championships. The club has been successful in having many past Metropolitan, State, and National champions.
